INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONSUMER PROVIDER PROGRAM
1) What is the Consumer Provider Program?
The Consumer Provider Program is an educational program provided by CASCAP, Inc. and Bunker Hill Community College. It is designed to assist individuals with psychiatric disabilities to secure employment in human service organizations.
2) What does participation in this program involve?
There are three primary components to the program.
Assessment: Prior to program initiation, potential trainees are formally assessed to ensure that their interests and aptitudes are compatible with those skills and abilities required to be successful human service workers.
Classroom Training: The majority of classroom training takes place during the first 13 weeks of program, for 20 hours each week. Training is currently held at CASCAP’s training center in Somerville and is accredited by Bunker Hill Community College. Participants are enrolled at BHCC and receive college credits and a certificate in Mental Health Services from Bunker Hill Upon successful completion of the program.
On-the-Job Training and Placement: After the initial classroom training period, individuals are guaranteed placement with local human services providers for a 14-week internship. Once the internship is completed successfully, the trainee will be assisted in obtaining a human service job of his or her choice.
3) Who is qualified to participate in this program?
To qualify for this program an individual would be:
- Over 18 years old.
- A citizen or documented to work in this country.
- Able to get to both the classroom training and internship on their own.
- Committed to succeed in a six month training and employment program.
- Have at least a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be DMH eligible with priority given to the Metro Boston area (includes the towns/cities of Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Revere, Somerville, and Winthrop).
3) How can I get more information about the program?
CASCAP holds regular information sessions about the Consumer Provider Program. These sessions are free and you do not need to be registered in advance to attend. All interested individuals are encouraged to participate in these sessions, including potential applicants, friends, family members and mental health professionals. 4) How do I apply to this program?

CASCAP will contact all applicants by mail at the conclusion of the participant acceptance process.
